Sankri (6400 ft) to Taluka (7200 ft) in a shared camper vehicle (12 kms – 45 mins)
Trek from Taluka (7200 ft) to Puani Garaat (8200 ft) via Gangad (12 kms – 6/7 hrs).
After a healthy breakfast, we leave Sankri for Taluka. The drive to Taluka itself is a adventurous journey on the bumpy roads in a camper vehicle.
Begin your trek from Taluka, a small village in the Uttarkashi district and the starting point of the Har Ki Dun trek. This trail offers a mix of landscapes, including quaint villages, dense forests, and high-altitude meadows. Puani Garaat is often used as a camping site, providing trekkers with a peaceful and scenic place to rest. Today’s trail is a mix of flat walk, gradual ascent and an intermediate steep ascent by the side of Supin River.
Puani Garaat (8200 ft) to Devsu Bugiyal (10200 ft) Trek.(Approx 12 kms – 6/7 hrs).
Today also, the trek is along the Supin river. First milestone is Debshu Bugyal, from where we will get a magnificent view of Kala Nag or Black Peak. After crossing Debshu Bugyal, we will descend through the forest with loose stones and sandy path to the river. We will cross the Supin river through a bridge. After crossing the bridge, we will again ascend with the Supin river flowing now on our right. There are a couple of tricky sections with slippery path where we might have to take a diversion. Trek along the river until we reach our campsite, which is by the side of the river. Overnight stay in Camps.
Rainbasera (10200) to Ruinsara Taal (11800 ft).
( Approx 7 kms – 5/6 hrs).
Ruinsara is a lovely lake surrounded by meadows and rhododendron bushes. The trail is not difficult but it is tiring. The campsite is beautiful. On one side of our camps is tiny lake of Ruinsara and on the other side is Supin River. The view from the campsite is mesmerising. On the south-west of Ruinsara Tal is Yamuna Kanta, the pass which takes you to Yamunotri and is rated as a difficult trek. To the east is the majestic Banderpooch Peak (6,387 m). The views of Dhumdhar Kandi (5,873 m) to the east, and Kala Nag (6,387m) and White Peak (6,102m) to the south-east are spectacular.
Ruinsara taal (11800 ft) to Kyarkoti Base Camp (13300 ft).
(Approx. 7 kms – 4/5 hours)
As you make your way towards Kyarkoti Base Camp from Ruinsara Tal, you start to see the summit of Black Peak. Kyarkoti is a massive patch of grassland surrounded by boulders and snow-clad mountains. The campsite lies next to a spring. We dare you to stop the adrenaline from rushing through your veins as you get to the base of this mesmerizing peak. Get a good look at your ultimate goal standing tall right before you, for the first time in the trek.
Kyarkoti Base Camp(13300 ft) to Advance Base Camp (14800 ft) trek.
(Approx 5 kms – 5/6 hours)
Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp: It’s a fair bit of altitude gain from Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp but a good trial run to get accustomed to the slopes and terrain of the peak. The trail takes you through grass lands, onto a bouldered section followed by a steep climb through a small patch prone to landslides which will take you into a moraine rich land and then onto a glacier. The climb should take close to 4-5 hours.
This day will be used as a acclimatization day and for technical training purpose.
Advance Base Camp (14800 ft) to Camp 1 (16550 ft). (Approx 2 kms – 4/5 hours)
Advanced Base Camp to Camp 1: The terrain is similar to the one we ended with yesterday – moraines, glaciers and ice. You will start to realize that everything seems easier the second time around.
Camp 1 (16550 ft) to Summit Camp (18050 ft). (Approx 3 kms – 4/5 kms)
Camp 1 to Summit Camp : With a majestic view of Swargarohini to the North and Bandarpooch to the south, we have now reached a terrain rich in hidden and open crevasses. Slowly adapt to the environment, terrain and its challenges to make your way to the top of the peak.
Summit Camp (18050 ft) to Black Peak Summit (20955 ft) and back to Summit Camp. (Approx 6 kms – 15/16 hours)
Summit Camp to Summit : We push off for the summit at 2 am. Hence, one immediate challenge is the night cold and the violent winds of the altitude. The summit climb is fairly challenging and involves navigating vertical ice walls of a gradient between 70-75 degrees with a height of 75-85 feet. These sections will require the use of fixed ropes and jumars to climb until we make it to the ridgeline. As opposed to its brutal slopes, the summit of Black Peak is fairly flat. We aim to reach the very top of this gorgeous peak in 7-8 hours and start our descent soon after so as to make it to the sanctuary of our tents before the snow starts to get unstable. Remember to exercise extreme caution on your way down, for descends are known to be more ruthless than ascends.
Today we descend down to Kyarkoti base camp.
Its our descend down day till Ruinsara Taal following the same path.
Today we descend down to Puani Garaat.
Today after descending down to Taluka we take the can back to Sankri Guest House.
Its a well deserved celebration night for our ardenous summit.
Today we bid Sankri goodbye with all the chilling memories of our summit and head towards Dehradun. 220 kms drive – 9/10 hours.
