Goechala Trek

Overview

Goechala Trek in Sikkim is one of the difficult and scenic treks in India. Those who are up for a challenging experience, ths 90 kms trail takes you through many challenging terrains offering the most mesmerizing close up view of Himalayan range in 11 days. The trails covers through forest walk, boulder zone, lake side and barren lands. This treks offers the closest view of Mt. Kanchenjungha and witness close view of many other eaks like Mt. Pandim, Mt. Kabru, Mt. Tinchenkhan etc.

The trek starts from Yuksum village in East Sikkim which is located nearly 150 kms from Siliguri town of West Bengal.

The best time to do Goechala trek is April, May and October, November month of a year. This trek is for seasoned trekkers who have prior experience in trekking and have a good physical fitness.

The temperature in this trek varies from 0 to 20 degree during day time and 5 to minus 5 degree at night during Spring and Summer season however during autumn and winter the temperature dips down to minus 10 degree also.

 

Itinenary

Today is our first day. We will pick you up from New Jalpaiguri Railway station (NJP) at 10 am. NJP to Yuksom by shared sumo/bolero vehicle. 150 kms approx. 8-10 hrs journey. Yuksom is situated in West Sikkim and it was capital of Sikkim once upon a time. The drive is through beautiful natural landscape passing through beautiful Teesta River, lush green forest and several towns of Sikkim including Legship, Jorethang etc.

Nightstay at aguesthouse in sharing basis.

After a healthy breakfast we would leave Yuksom and trek towards Sachen campsite through Kanchenjungha National park. The train passes through dense forest, Rhododendron and Magnolia orchards   and there are several steep ascents and descents on the trek route. You will cross 3 ancient suspension bridges across your route and 2 water points for refilling your bottles.  There are high chances of Leaches during the trail, so it is advised to keep a packet of salt along with you. Rathong and Mentogang rivers walk alongside you through the trail with their gushing flows.

Over night stay at a camp.

Today we head towards Tshoka campsite. Enroute you will cross Prekchu river and trek steep uphill till Bakhim. The trek to Tshoka is uphill climb althrough, so even if the distance is less, a lot time is expected to cover the trail. The trail passes by Rhododendron and Oak forests which are in full bloom in Spring season and hues in golden fall colors in Autumn.  From the campsite you will witness the first glimpse of Mt. Pandim and Mt. Kanchenjungha.

Today we will make our way through to dzongri campsite. the trail covers through rocky terrain and wooden trail. The trek is mostly uphill and does not have any water refilling points. We will have our lunch break at Phedang. Dzongri is a mesmeraizing campsite with the backdrop of Mt. Kanchenjhungha massif and many other prominent peaks. The steep uphill trek may cause you nausea, headache and other early AMS symptoms, so dont forget to hydrate well and take enough rest.

Today is our much earned rest day at Dzongri for better acclimatization.
Early morning we shall hike to Dzongri top for a maginificent sunrise view on the mountains.

We start our trek from Dzongri towards Thansing via Kokchurang today. The trail is through meadows till Kokchurang in both ascending and descending walks. After crossing prekchu river,  the trail goes with gradual ascent till Thansing. Thansing campsite is at the foothill of Mt. Pandim, so you will get a magnificent close look of Mt. Pandim throughout your stay at Thansing.

Over night stay at Camps.

Today is the most relaxing day in the whole trek and a well deserved rest bfore the big day. We shall start from Thansing and walk through mostly on flat terrain except the last rocky uphill hike before reaching the campsite. We shall take early dinner and go for sleep early in evening as the summit walk starts at 2 am next morning.

Over night stay at tents.

Today is the big bright day for us. The toughest day of the trek longest too. We would wake up sharp at 1 am and get ready for big summit push. After having a light breakfast we move for Goechala VP 1. 2 kms to the trail, we cross beautiful Samily lake which can be seen properly in the morning with dayight while returning back. Post Samity lake it is a steep ascend till Goechala View point through rocky terrain. We shall reach Goechala before sunrise to witness the mesmarizing sunrise view of Mt. Kanchenjungha, Mt. Pandim, Mt. Kabru Dome, Mt. Kabru South and North, Mt. Tinchenkhang and other prominent peaks. The 360 degree view of the mountains will blow you out on a clear weather. After spending some time there, we shall head back to our Lamuney campsite. Enjoy a delicious breakfast here. Post which we will again trek down till Thansing/Kokchurang.

Over night stay at tents.

Today we trek down from Thangshing/Kokchurang to Tshoka via phedang.
Its a long day so we will start early in the morning to reach our campsite before dark.

Like yesterday we shall start our trek towards Yuksam early in the morning.  We will reach Yuksam by late afternoon. Take a hot bath and celebrate completion of the trek. You have earned it !
Over night stay at guesthouse.

Today we bid Yuksam goodbye and drive towards our final destination NJP by shared Sumo/Bolero. Reach NJP by 6 pm. You can book your onward journey after 7 pm.

3. Cancellations prior to 7 days from the trek start date : No cash refund. Transfer your trek (same trek, same batch) to your friend or 100% voucher refund for any of our treks till one year
4. Cancellation within less than 7 days from trek start date, no cash refund or voucher refund.
