Winter Kuari Pass Trek

At an altitude of 12750 feet, Kuari pass is like an amphitheatre where some of the magnificent peaks of the Himalayas take the stage. The 7000 meters club includes Mt. Kamet (7756 Mtr), Mt. Trishul (7120 mtr), Mt. Choukhamba (7128 mtr) and the great Mt. Nanda Devi (7817 mtr) and its twin sister Mt. Nanda Devi East (7434 mt). More peaks make an equally imposing appearance such as Mt. nanda Ghunti, Hathi Ghoda Parvat, Mt. Neelkanth, Mt. Dronagiri, Mukt Parvat and Changbang Peak. The Kuari Pass Trek gives you a chance to view the impressive skyline of these mighty mountains from close up.

The trek begins at Tugasi village in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand which can be reached from Joshimath. The road to Joshimath passes through confluences of several rivers like the Alaknanda, Pindar, Kaliganga, Mandakini, Birehiganga and Dhouli ganga and Panch prayag named Dev Prayag, Karna Prayag and Rudra Prayag.

The truly refreshing part of this trek is while walking through the mesmerizing Himalayan meadows alled Bugiyals in local language. The beauty and serinity of a Bugiyal is an experience no one should miss out on. The most remarkable one is the Gorson bugiyal consisting of vast green valley. On this trek you will also visit Auli which is famous for skiing and its beautiful slopes in the winter.

In winter season, the trek becomes an all snow covered white trail for you to enjoy it to the fullest. This trek can be attempted by first timers also who are familier with extreme cold.

Itinenary

You will be picked up from Haridwar Railway Station at morning 7 am. Distance to Joshimath is approx 250 kms which takes 9-10 hours of drive. We will be passing by Yog Nagari Rishikesh and Pancha Prayag or the five holy confluences of Ganga – Devaprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag and Vishnuprayag.

Overnight stay at a guest house.

Joshimath to Dhak Village Drive. Dhak Village (7000 ft) to Gulling Top (9000ft) trek ( 7 kms – 4/5 hours )

We would drive to Dhak village from Joshimath which takes approximately 1 hour. We shall start our trek from here towards Gulling Top camp site. The trail is a mixed of gradual ascent, flat walk with intermittent steep slopes. You will pass by many villages and their farm lands on the way. A beautiful view of Mt. Dronagiri, Hathi – Ghori parvat will be always accompanying with you.

Over night stay at camps.

Gulling To (9000 ft) to Khullara (11800 ft) trek ( 8 kms – 6/7 hours )

The trail from Gulling to Khullara passes by dense Rhododendron and Oak forest of Tali. you can find walnut and some other varieties of conifers here. Khullara is a vast meadow that offers a magnificent view of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Play with snow and make a memory to cherish forever,

Over night stay at camps.

Khullara (11800 ft) to Kuari Pass (12500 ft) and back to Khullara ( 8 kms – 7/8 hours )

Today is our summit day and the most exciting day. We will start early in the morning from Khullara towards Kuari Pass. It is a part of the Lord Karzon’s Trail which connects Khullara to Roopkund. You need to traverse a broken bridge and a frozen stream on hights of winter followed by a ridge walk to the high pass. It is severely strenous and more difficult with the snow. At Jhandi Dhar, a suitable rest point is awaiting for you. You can enjoy the view of several 7000 meter eminent peaks from the summit. After spending a good amount of time we shall head back to our Khullara camp site.

Over night stay at Tents.

Khullara to Auli via Gorson Bugiyal trek ( 12 kms – 7/8 hours ). Auli to Joshimath drive.

Today we hike down to Auli, the skiing capital of India  via Gorson Bugiyal. Traversing the bugiyals is smooth and hassle free walk rolled on snow. Enjoy your time at Auli. After that we return to Joshimath whwre we celebrate our trek completion.

Over night stay at a guest house.

With a mind full of memories we bid goodbye to Joshimath and head towards our destination of Rishikesh / Haridwar. You will reach by 6 pm. You can book your onward journey after 7 pm.

2. Cancellations prior to 15 days from the trek start date : 70% money refund or 100% voucher refund for any of our treks till one year
3. Cancellations prior to 7 days from the trek start date : No cash refund. Transfer your trek (same trek, same batch) to your friend or 100% voucher refund for any of our treks till one year
4. Cancellation within less than 7 days from trek start date, no cash refund or voucher refund.
